Is a throttle control motor the same as an idle air control valve?

the throttle control motor code came up on a 1999 volkswagen beetle, and i'm wondering if it's an idle air control valve.

I see in the book there is a throttle control modual on the firewall, but the code reader said motor, so I don't think a modual would be the same as a motor. Is a throttle control motor the same as an idle air control valve?
Your VW is a ';drive by wire'; throttle. Means there is no throttle linkage. When you step on the gas ,you are making a throttle request. The computer activates the throttle control motor, opening the throttle valve. Its the big unit on the intake where the air boot coming from the air filter attaches to the motor. It's an expensive unit , so just because you have a code for it doesn't mean you need one. Needs to be checked by a pro to make sure.Is a throttle control motor the same as an idle air control valve?
No they are not.

each are different and each have a sensor of they're own.

Could be the same thing though.....check with your local auto parts store and see if they have parts for that car by those names...
Yes. On a 99 Beetle, it's the same thing. The motor is in the throttle. It's all one part and has to be replaced together.

Pay up...
