What is the oil control valve in a car? What does it do? Where is it located? What does it look like?

That's a new one on me - the oil filter generally has an oil bypass valve to assure oil flow if the filter gets clogged, and the oil pump, located in the oil pan, has a pressure relief valve because it's a positive displacement pump.

There are numerous components, plugs, orifices and critical clearances that play an important role in determining the oil control in an engine - but no specific ';oil control valve'; that I know of.

Perhaps a turbo charged engine may have a control valve of some type to supply oil to the turbo while it spools down after engine shut down. other than that application, I'm at a loss. What is the oil control valve in a car? What does it do? Where is it located? What does it look like?
there is a pressure bypass valve, and it is part of the oil

pump,if they are saying it needs to be replaced it sounds

like the engine may be very worn, try using a heavier oil. What is the oil control valve in a car? What does it do? Where is it located? What does it look like?
cars have oil control valves? who told you that ? cars have oil pumps(usually located in the oil pan)
There is typically a pressure bypass valve in your engine oil filter.
