Turn the car off and unplug the IAC. Restart the engine. If it runs fast, then it's probably O.K. If there is no change, it's probably bad.
I would also take the IAC off the engine and inspect it for varnish and carbon deposits. You might get lucky and be able to clean it up with carb spray.How to test out a bad idle air control valve?
Unplug the electrical connector on the valve. If the problem doesn't change then most likely it is the valve If the problem gets worse than the valve is prob OK. Fords are know for IAC problems. Anything from rangers to mustangs.
