How much to replace a ';idle control valve'; for a 4 cyl toyota camry 1998. The dealer said $450 apprx. ???

is this a rip off, or about right? How much to replace a ';idle control valve'; for a 4 cyl toyota camry 1998. The dealer said $450 apprx. ???
It's about right for a dealership. The valve itself is easy to change, but you're paying for more than just that. That price probably also includes diagnostic fees, which can be higher than the labor to actually change the part. Also, the part itself runs about double, from the dealer, as compared to aftermarket pricing. However, many times that valve can be removed, cleaned, clean the throttle body itself, and reinstall the valve- and work just fine -- eliminating the cost of the actual replacement part. Talk to the mechanic directly, if possible, and ask him about this. Depending on what's actually wrong with the ICV, this may be an option for you and is a pretty common repair to perform for idle problems. Much more common than actually needing the valve itself replaced. Hope this helps you some. How much to replace a ';idle control valve'; for a 4 cyl toyota camry 1998. The dealer said $450 apprx. ???
